The dates for our Winter Indoor Skills Sessions at Lakevue Athletics Club will be: January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 12, 19, 26, March 5. (March 12 will be a make-up day if needed.)
Our skills sessions are for Mars area girls that want to learn how to play lacrosse or that want to sharpen their skills. The coaches make these sessions so much fun and your daughter will meet a lot of great girls. We will have the full field at Lakevue on Sunday evenings from 5-7. We will split the ages so that we will have plenty of room. We will take girls from 1st to 8th grade. Talk to your friends now!! We would love to see a lot of new girls register. This could be your sport!! Give it a try. Registration will open October 22nd. We will again offer the two trial sessions, you will just need to obtain US lacrosse number before participating. You do still need to send your $100 check. You can attach a note saying "Hold my check" and we will wait to see if your daughter likes it. If she does, we will keep the check, if she doesn't, we will return the check to you. More information will come out soon.
Mars Girls Youth Lacrosse Upcoming Winter and Spring Seasons
I wanted to provide some information about our lacrosse program for those of you who have questions about when the season starts, where we play, where we practice, etc.
First of all, I want to announce that this is the first year we will accept 1st graders into our program!! We are growing again!
We hope to have our Registration/Informational Meeting on November 3rd at 6:30 at the Cider House in Treesdale. Actual registration will be open in October. This will be advertised in the schools, on our website and on our Facebook page. We will fill our rosters on a first come basis based on who is registered and paid first. That is also how the jerseys will be distributed.
Before our season starts, we offer Winter Indoor Sessions at Lakevue Athletic Club on Sunday evenings. This is run the same way the Summer Clinics are run. The girls will be grouped by age and skill, then they will all come together for some activities. Last year we had the girls come from 5-6. It ran for 8 Sundays from January to March.
Our actual season starts in March. Lacrosse is a spring sport. We usually have our first couple of practices in March at Lakevue. The weather is usually not ideal for us to practice outside. Our practice schedule for this past March was little last minute on a few occasions since we would have to depend on the weather and the availability of Lakevue. When the weather does improve, we start having our practices on Mondays and Fridays at either the Auditorium Field or the White House Field. U13 and U15 practiced at the Auditorium Field and U9 and U11 practiced at the White House Field. It worked out very well this past season to have the two fields instead of just one. The girls had plenty of room to scrimmage and perform all the necessary drills. We play our home games at the MAC on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Our away games could be any day. We begin scrimmaging towards the end of March and games normally start in April. Lacrosse is a busy season from April to around May 23rd. We normally have our U15 team participate in two tournaments each year. Our other teams will have the chance to participate in at least one tournament. This will be the WPSLA tournament. This past year it was held in Slippery Rock so you don't have to travel far.
We have a Youth Night at a Mars Girls High School Lacrosse game during the season too. The girls get to run on the field and have a bunch of fun watching the game with their friends.
We are a volunteer organization run by parents. We really need your help to have a successful season. We ask that each parent volunteers at least one time during the Spring Season. There are many jobs you can do. some of the jobs are: coaching, sign in table, hand out jerseys, sell spirit wear, fundraising, team manager, timing, scoring, setting up the field, collecting jerseys, etc. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to help us.
We provide both a practice and game jersey for each girl. They will need to bring both jerseys to each game. Sometimes we have to change and we don't have extras. The girls need to wear navy, black or gray shorts or pants with their jerseys. Any visible clothing must be navy, black, or gray. A few girls wore navy blue kilts last year. Some teams require a kilt, we do not, but they are cute!! You can find them for about $14 on Amazon and plenty of other sites.
The girls will each need to have lacrosse goggles, girls lacrosse stick, and a mouth guard. The mouth guard for games can not be white or clear or have teeth painted on it. Cleats are recommended but tennis shoes are fine. Many parent ask about head protection. Only the goalie can wear a helmet. The field players can wear head protection but you will want to go to the US Lacrosse website to check on the ones that are approved.
Our program is for mainly Mars Area girls, however, we have had girls from other areas join our program. This is rare but we will let a girl that doesn't have a lacrosse program for her age join us. This has always worked out well for us and the player.
Our registration fees are:
U9 $160 plus deposits
U11 $185 plus deposits
U13 and U15 $225 plus deposits
We realize that some families my encounter financial hardships. If this is your case, please talk to us privately and we can work with you to waive our fees. We want every girl to have the chance to play lacrosse.
If you would like to know more about girls lacrosse, you can visit the US Lacrosse website. They have rule books you can request for a small fee. Also, there are plenty of Youtube videos that you can watch to see how the game is played.
We had 74 girls play this last season which was up from 51 the previous season. We hope to grow by at least 25 girls this season. We really have a need for 7th and 8th grade girls for our upcoming season due to losing 18 8th graders this past season. If you know anyone that may be interested, please have them check us out. Tell your daughter to get a group of her friends together to try a new sport. It is always more fun with your friends.
The dates for our Winter Indoor Lacrosse are January 8, 15, 22, 29, Feb. 12, 19, 26, March 5 at Lakevue Athletic club.
The sessions will be from 5-6 for U9 and U11 girls. The sessions will be from 6-7 for U13 and U15 girls.
The cost will be $100. Registration will open on Oct. 22nd. You daughter will also need a US Lacrosse number that will be active for 12 months. The cost is $25 which is paid to US Lacrosse. When you register on our site, it will automatically take you to their site if you are new to lacrosse. You must pay the registration fees before your daughter can attend their first session. Even if you are trying it out for two sessions, you must pay the $100. Just attach a note that says "Hold my check."
There will be no exceptions regarding non-payment this year. We had people attend the entire session last winter and not pay until after it was over.
Our winter sessions are for new girls and previous players. The girls will be grouped with other girls with the same level of lacrosse skills. This is a great way to introduce your daughter to lacrosse before the spring season of lacrosse.
*Girls will need a girls stick, lacrosse goggles, mouth guard (no white or clear), water, tennis shoes or cleats.
*We will have a few sticks and goggles to lend but you need to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org so I know to save one for you.
